Learn about the organization’s projects in Jordan
Since the outbreak of the war in Syria in 2011, Jordan has become a haven for a huge number of Syrian refugees, who now represent more than 10% of Jordan’s population, putting immense pressure on the country’s resources during one of its toughest economic periods in history.
Half of the Syrian refugees in Jordan are children. Various humanitarian organizations working on the ground are struggling to help maintain the health of these children and preserve their opportunities to receive education in schools.
The organization stands responsible for the affected refugees wherever they may be. We make every effort to save lives, primarily relying on the generosity and support of donors.
“When we first arrived in Jordan to save our lives as the crisis intensified, we stayed in the Zaatari camp. Life in the camp was extremely difficult because we have two children with disabilities who require special care, especially since their overall health is weak in addition to their disabilities.”
Omar said, “I was extremely afraid of losing them in the camp.” Omar is one of the thousands of people who fled to save their lives and their families when the situation in Aleppo became unbearable.
Then his wife told us, “I have five children, two of whom suffer from cerebral palsy. They are twins who experienced difficulties during childbirth, which led to this health problem.” She continued, “In the beginning, we stayed under the trees for a few days. It was summer when we arrived, and the sun was scorching during the day while the nights were cold. We suffered a lot until the day we managed to get a tent. Those few days were the hardest in my life. But even after we got the tent, it was very difficult to take care of the children, especially their personal hygiene due to the lack of water and sanitation. There was very little water that barely sufficed for drinking.”
In conclusion
she said, “We stayed like this until the day the organization visited us in the camp and saw the extent of our difficult situation. We were chosen among 100 other families to move to a rented apartment, and they covered its rent. We were all families with sick or disabled individuals. What the organization did truly saved the lives of the children.”
