The increase in the number of refugees as a result of the worsening security situation in Sudan

Due to the continuation of the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the country has entered one of the worst humanitarian crises in its history, which led to the outbreak of a wave of great suffering that inflicted heavy damage on civilians. This humanitarian crisis is one of the most serious situations witnessed in the region in recent decades, at a time when there is insufficient international attention to this ongoing crisis, which is rapidly worsening, leaving the Sudanese people facing an unknown fate.

Since the beginning of the conflict in Sudan more than 19 months ago, millions of civilians have been subjected to the most heinous forms of violence and human rights violations, which have left lasting effects on their lives. Those fleeing the devastating violence have had to leave their homes, carrying only bitter memories of the destruction they witnessed, on a journey that could take months to seek safety in neighboring countries or even further afield. These refugees are living in harsh conditions in camps that lack the basic necessities of life such as shelter and health care.

Some neighboring countries such as Chad are experiencing an unprecedented influx of refugees, receiving more than 700,000 Sudanese refugees, which has put an enormous strain on local resources. These countries are forced to cope with such large numbers, while refugees face difficult conditions due to lack of education and health care, as well as lack of Clean Water Resources, which increases their daily suffering. At the same time, other crises are worsening in these host countries that face their own challenges in accommodating such large numbers of refugees.

Despite the growing number of refugees from Sudan, the international community continues to lose sight of this ongoing humanitarian crisis, which makes the situation even more complicated. The humanitarian needs in the region are beyond the capacity of many host countries to respond adequately. International support is more than necessary at this stage to ensure the provision of sustainable humanitarian assistance and maintain stability in the region, especially as the economic and social consequences of the crisis worsen.

The international community is still required to assume responsibility and provide the necessary financial support to ensure the sustainability of humanitarian assistance and achieve stability in the region. In addition, it is important to accelerate efforts to provide durable solutions for refugees, such as support directed towards voluntary return, and help rebuild the lives of refugees in their countries after the conflict ends.
