Circumstances in Iraq

Due to the circumstances of war and armed conflicts in Iraq, nearly 1.8 million Iraqis remain internally displaced, and 6.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance

The lack of security, social cohesion, and livelihood opportunities hinders people’s ability to return to their homes. More than half of those who remain displaced have been away from their homes for three years or more.

Iraq still faces security concerns and post-war repercussions, including weakened social fabric, deteriorated livelihoods, and housing damage or destruction. For internally displaced persons, the lack of employment opportunities or means of livelihood is a significant concern, while many struggle to meet their basic needs for food, health, shelter, and education.

In addition to these challenges, Iraq is also vulnerable to a wide range of environmental and natural risks.

Our organization has contributed to alleviating some of the suffering of the Iraqi people by providing food assistance, cash aid, and seasonal projects.

Stories of Suffering in Iraq

“Saber volunteered with the organization’s team to distribute sacrificial meat to deserving individuals in his town. He told us that he witnessed much joy with the Eid gift. Saber said that when he gave the sacrificial meat to a poor household, the head of the family said:

“Yesterday, I bought chicken wings because they are the cheapest part, and it’s all we can afford. I hope the children can eat meat instead of that because every time we want to feed our children meat, we can’t afford anything other than chicken wings. The children will be very happy.”

Saber explains that this father is a daily wage laborer, and his family barely makes ends meet. The small amount he earns each day is barely enough for the family to buy bread and lentils. That’s why they eagerly wait for Eid each year to eat meat.”

“I am very pleased with this experience despite witnessing the poverty and sadness among many families. But I also saw the laughter of children and the joy of mothers.”
