Learn about the organization’s projects in India

Circumstances in India

Over the years, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts, and landslides have caused immense suffering for the people of India.

Years of conflict have also resulted in population displacement, leaving many people without means of livelihood and vulnerable to extreme poverty. More than 800 million people in India are considered poor and at risk of malnutrition and limited access to education. Indians also face high infant mortality rates, leading to child labor and forced marriages of underage girls.

Additionally, an estimated 40,000 Rohingya refugees have sought refuge in India over several decades. Around 1,000 Rohingya refugees currently live in Delhi.

The humanitarian conditions for Rohingya refugees in India are extremely dire. They now face the grim possibility of a second displacement, potentially fleeing to Bangladesh to escape harsh conditions in India.

The organization has provided cash assistance to Rohingya refugees in India to alleviate some of their suffering. We have also implemented several projects aimed at improving food security and health conditions for the most vulnerable and impoverished communities there.

Stories of Suffering in India

“I have seven children, and my young children suffer from malnutrition. I work on a farm and eat what it produces, so there are many foods that my children haven’t had in a while.”
Sarkan’s family is one of the beneficiaries of the organization’s food security project implemented in India.

“My mother is an elderly lady and lives with me in the same house. I can’t provide enough food for my large family, especially for the children. The assistance provided by the organization has relieved a lot of burdens, and I have noticed a change in my children and my mother. Not only has their health improved, but also their mental well-being. It’s enough that they no longer go to bed without dinner,” Sarkan concludes.
